I'm John Verner, a journalist known for defining cults as systems where leaders control, contain, and convert followers. Graduating with a BA in Biblical Exposition from Moody Bible Institute in 2016, while holding their “Homiletical Jury” award for excellent preaching, I dove into a whirlwind journey of divorce, homelessness, and faith deconstruction less than 2 years later. Soon, I was living in a van, where I birthed a book titled, “The Cult of Christianity: How Churches Control, Contain, and Convert,” which explored the sinister nuances of white evangelicalism. Since 2021, I've been hosting "The Cult of Christianity" podcast, investigating the parallels between cults and Christianity. Currently obtaining my Masters in American Journalism at NYU, I'm set to graduate in May. Fueling my mission is an unwavering dedication to unveil raw truths in my reporting, podcasting, and investigations.
